Don't even acknowledge the existence of yellow orbs. The best way to get good is to replay the mission. You play the LEGENDARY DARK SOULS and thought you were a pro because everyone says it's hard? Welcome to old school gaming, ninja. This sounds like a case of someone who has been ruined by modern games. To be honest, this sounds like a case of git gud skrub. Why did you lose a yellow orb to phantom (the spider) in the hallway? That's at the start of a mission. I wouldn't hate you if you cheated and cheesed the games, but honestly you would be robbing yourself of the experience of getting better and overcoming the obstacles the game throws at you. I would expect you to start realising the patterns after the first two times you see an attack to avoid them. The missions themselves are short, you should be able to replay them in ten minutes each, and enemy and boss attacks are very well telegraphed. Enjoy the enemies, kill all the enemies in a room but leave one alive and just observe its attacks and try and notice something about it. Instead, take in the progress you make and improve, enjoy the scenery, it's an adventure through this haunted demonic castle. You shouldn't look at this game as filler that you just want to beat and rush through to see the end, you won't enjoy yourself at all like that. It makes it rough around the edges for new comers, but makes the game so much more enjoyable when you play it again and again, a philosophy most games don't have any more where you really have to practise to beat it and find it challenging each time you play rather than just learning a trick they gave you a warning for. The game was designed for replayability and rewarding returning players more than first time players. It's a game based solely around learning enemy patterns and the best counter-attacks to them, so how do you want me to beat hard boss fights on the first tryĮxactly true, and that's where the appeal comes in. Not far from the truth, since you aren't supposed to use yellow orbs or even die, items are a last resort for players who are struggling which you should aim to avoid as much as possible, and the game actually penalises you for using them (but there's nothing wrong with using them, only relying on them as a crutch). Does the game later give you enough yellow orbs that you have to worry little about it or is it always going to be a scarce resource? Oh, moreover, I lost a yellow orb to the scorpion appearing out of nowhere in the corridor and another to the mirror demon attacking me while I was climbing towards him and the camera changes, things that would be fine with a normal checkpoint system like in Bayonetta, but not in one where I have to do the last 20 minutes all over again Plus, I don't have the time for doing missions over and over again, I'm in goddamn college and I need to study. I'm all for a hard challenge, but even Dark Souls 1 offered hidden bonfires near boss fights so that you do very little backtracking every time, and in that game there's not much enemy variety, so once you learn how one works you can always defeat him, the difficulty actually comes more from analyzing the level design on the fly and coming up with a strategy and prioritizing actions, and you also get to keep items aswell. There I discovered that if you finish yellow orbs you have to start the mission from the beginning. I made it past the dreaded scorpion no prob by spamming jump and attack, the shadow lion that you have to shoot to death, and I got vanquished at the mirror demon. I like the setting, I like the combat, I like the lack of direction, I like the graphics, the cutscenes.
